ABOUT TY

RED DIRT NORTH

Ty Wilson is an award winning alt-country troubadour who seamlessly blends traditional and modern elements, with a soulful voice and an authentic storytelling style to create powerful and resonant music. The Peterborough, Ontario native’s (northeast of Toronto) self-coined “Red Dirt North” style mixes a fusion of modern country with southern rock flavour and is influenced by the likes of Chris Stapleton, Steve Earle and Eric Church.

After racking up over 1,500,000 streams, landing both debut singles from Northern Heart, Southern Soul in SiriusXM’s Top of the Country Top 10 (Chasin’ Headlights, Born To Lose), and sharing the stage with artists like Muscadine Bloodline, Kameron Marlowe, Tim Hicks, Steven Lee Olsen, Bryan Martin (and many more), Ty has finally released Northern Heart, Southern Soul in it’s entirety, completing the release of the 8 song LP. “It’s always been a dream of mine to put out a full length LP” Wilson states, “and recording this album in Texas ensured that I was able to mix my Canadian roots with authentic southern country-rock sounds.”

To make Northern Heart, Southern Soul, Wilson enlisted the help of Nashville based producer/drummer, Jay Tooke (The Steel Woods, Randy Houser, Wyatt Flores), to consult and perform on the album, with Texas country heavyweights Edgewater Music Group producing and engineering the eight- song LP. “My music has been very well received south of the border. I have a love for southern influenced music, so when the opportunity to record with this team in Texas happened, I had to take it,” states Wilson.

Recently, Wilson was named 2nd place winner in the 2025 Music in Motion Canada Awards, runner up winner in the 2025 North of Nowhere music festivals “Emerging Artist Showcase,” a winner in both Nashville’s 2024 Unsigned Only competition (“The Last Sip”) and the Texas Country Music Association’s 2024 songwriting contest (“The Last Sip”), He was crowned "Male Vocalist of The Year" at the 2024 Texas Sounds CMA. He was named the 2024 Reader's Choice "Diamond Winner" for "Best Local Band/Musician in his hometown of Peterborough, ON, and has had three #1 Canadian Indie Country Countdown singles, “The Last Sip” (2023) “Pair of Hearts” (2023) “Another Day, Another Pour” (2022).

He grew up in small-town Ontario (Keene) with deep musical roots in the Peterborough area. Wilson’s great grandmother (Vera Keating) holds a star on the Peterborough Walk of Fame for her accomplishments in fiddling. His grandmother (Jaqueline Coburn) had her own TV show on local cable and opened for legendary artists such as Johnny Cash and Marty Stuart. Keeping with this tradition, Wilson has always had an affinity for music. He picked up a guitar for the first time at the age of 10 and started to write songs at 12-years-old.

Ty Wilson delivers grit and heart on new country album “Northern Heart, Southern Soul”
An Eloquent Fusion of Canadian Roots and Southern Rock Cadence
Ty Wilson’s country music is retro, old school, rustic. Think of whiskey soaked baritones, passionate vocals, romantic notions, and a life soaked brilliance. His music takes you back to the feel-good, storytelling, textured, and comforting ethos of country music. ‘Chasin’ Headlights’ is the artist’s latest single, a track that combines the ardence of getting back home to your love with the scenery of country roads, sunsets, and long drives.
A gritty, yet emotional electric guitar opening up the track, ‘Chasin’ Headlights’ by Ty Wilson is the alt-country rock song you did not know your playlist needed. The instrumentation is brimming with soul and emotionality that you will find yourself helplessly affected by. The lyricism is full of imagery, as it takes on a storytelling mode, giving you a whole short film to picture in your head. Wilson’s vocals are simply stunning, and that is putting it mildly, as it brings together the story and emotion through unbelievable richness and vulnerability. There is no going back from this song after the first listen.
Shawnee Kish was awarded the Grand Prize for "Mercy," and Ty Wilson took home the Second Prize for “Chasing Headlights”
Northern Heart, Southern Soul plays like an introduction that already knows where it’s headed. The writing is rooted in movement; highways, distance, reflection, and that constant tug between chasing the dream and keeping your real life intact. The Texas and Nashville connections behind the scenes help explain why the record feels focused instead of scattered; Wilson clearly went in with a plan and the right team to execute it. If you like country that carries a little rock grit in the vocal delivery but still cares about storytelling, this one is worth your time; especially if “Chasin’ Headlights” is your kind of windows-down anthem.
“Chasin’ Headlights” by Ty Wilson is a standout track that captures the essence of his unique “Red Dirt North” style, where traditional country meets southern rock. The single lead-off from his debut album “Northern Heart, Southern Soul”, it’s a heartfelt anthem to his fiancé, which captures the life of an artist on the road. The song blends chugging electric guitars with a chorus that’s made for highway cruising, all delivered through Wilson’s soulful voice. It’s not just a song; it’s a love letter on wheels, covered in modern country and southern rock.
Ty Wilson has packed a lot of life experience into his young life thus far. Growing up in rural Ontario, music quickly became a life line for him. Ty’s Grandmother was a well-known Peterborough area country musician, opening for legends such as Johnny Cash in the early 60’s. She bought him his first guitar at 10 years old and he hasn’t slowed down since.
Ty Wilson doesn’t chase fame. He chases music. That means two parallel lives on stage: one as a singer-songwriter crafting honest, road-tested alt-country originals, and the other performing classic rock — including Bob Seger — as a tribute show. These are separate gigs, each with its own audience, energy, and purpose.
Ty’s raw and vulnerable storytelling in this track hits hard as he reflects on his journey to sobriety. From the soft, introspective verses to the powerful choruses, Ty brings such emotion to the table, making this song one that sticks with you long after it’s over.
"The Last Sip" is the latest single released by Canada-based artist, Ty Wilson. Boasting poppy vocal flows over a well-produced and dynamic instrumental, we added the single to our Indie & Alternative Rock playlist on Spotify.
With The Last Sip , Ty Wilson delivers a deeply personal and emotional work, revealing a new and vulnerable side to his music. In a country genre often saturated with songs about drinking, Wilson chooses to stand out here with an intimate reflection on his decision to live sober.
It's a good time to drown your sorrows with "Ty Wilson"! This artist has left us moved with his new single, which has had a great reception by the public because it proposes a premise of vulnerability that will make us seek redemption, this composition was glorious and through the Country genre...
